Reflection

We tend to imagine that beginning again has to be loud. A vow. A complete reinvention. A clean break with the version of us we've grown tired of carrying. But grace doesn't usually arrive that way. Grace usually arrives quieter. A small willingness, a half-formed prayer, a slight turning of the head back toward something we've been avoiding.

There is no transcript God needs you to deliver before you're allowed to return. You don't have to explain where you've been. You don't have to apologize for how long it's taken. You don't have to perform repentance in order to be received. The God who waits for you is not pacing; the God who waits for you is gentle.

If today feels heavy with the weight of starting over again, if you've started over so many times the words have lost their meaning, let this be the version that doesn't require a speech. One quiet step. One honest breath. One small admission that you'd like things to be different. That's enough to begin.

The dawn doesn't shout when it arrives. It just shows up, exactly on time, with no commentary on the night before. You're allowed to begin like that too.
