Slow is not absent

Path: Growth
Question
What in your life is taking longer than you hoped, and what would change if you trusted it was still growing?
Thought
Most of what God is doing in your life today is happening below the surface. Slow is not the same as absent.
"Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains."
James 5:7Reflection
We expect growth to be visible. We expect change to announce itself. When we have prayed for something for months, a healing, a relationship, a clarity, a calling, and nothing seems to be happening, we start to wonder if we have been wasting our breath. The silence begins to sound like an answer we did not want to hear.
But growth has its own clock, and that clock rarely matches ours. A seed in early spring spends most of its life invisible. The work happens in the dark, beneath the surface, in conditions no one is observing. By the time anything green appears above the soil, weeks of unseen labor have already happened. The visible part is only the proof of the invisible part. And if we judge a seed by what it shows above ground in week two, we will conclude it is a failure when it is, in fact, exactly on schedule.
Most of what God is doing in your life right now is happening below the surface. You will not see it in the mirror today. You will not feel it in your prayers tonight. You will probably not notice it at all until much later, when something has shifted and you cannot quite point to the day it changed. The work that lasts is rarely the work that announces itself.
This does not mean nothing is wrong. It does not mean every delay is divine. But it does mean that the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Slow is not the same as absent. Hidden is not the same as not happening. The same patience the farmer gives to a field, you can give to your own life.
Pause
Take one slow breath. Whisper:
What is hidden may still be alive. I can wait.
Carry With You
What is hidden may still be growing.
